The website of Southold Town is an
orphan of Town Government. The Jean Cochran administration started
the
website, Southold Town Data Processing Department has taken over
maintenance of and additions to the website, but contrary to the
notice on the bottom of every webpage “Web
Site Designed ... by the Southold Town Data Processing Department” the
original design has never been completed or replaced.
The website can be seen as a metaphor for Southold
Town Government itself. Despite the passages of many administrations
and the inclusion of many new information technologies, the lack
of a comprehensive vision is a vital flaw. The effectiveness,
efficiency, economy and user friendliness of Southold Town government
is suffering.
While a government has many many parts
and systems, a website offers an unequalled opportunity to
develop a comprehensive vision. Each part and system can be defined
and the relationship of each division with the whole can be described.
Revisions can be made “on the fly”.
Suggestions proposed
by Eastcreekwebs
have been adopted, but the Southold Town website is still laking
any integrity. Eastcreekwebs is ready willing and able to replace
or repair the current Southold Town website.
The failure of Southold Town Board to take our
Website seriously is costing taxpayers money. Business in
Southold is
loosing out on opportunities. There is a collateral impact which
not only makes it unpleasant to visit the website it is also
degrading to the quality of in person communications.
The Town Board continues to refuse to
include the status of the website as an agenda item on a Town
Meeting.
